15 long-term care students
awarded more than $20,000 through THCEF
The Tennessee Health Care Education Foundation (THCEF) Board of
Directors recently voted to award scholarships to 15 students of
long-term care across the Volunteer State. A total of $20,500, the
fourth largest amount ever awarded, will be used by these
individuals to continue their educational endeavors. Following
graduation, each has agreed to work in long-term care for at least
one year.
2003 THCEF scholarship winners, listed in alphabetical order, are:
Jessie F. Balfour – LPN at
Saint Francis Nursing Home is pursuing a nursing degree at Southwest
Tennessee Community College;
Yvonne L. Barbee –
assistant food services director at Life Care Center of Collegedale
is receiving dietary manager training through the University of
Florida;
Love I. Bond – assistant
supervisor for housekeeping at Crockett County Nursing Home, Inc. is
pursuing a nursing diploma at Tennessee Technology Center at Ripley;
Mary M. Cummings –
assistant director of nursing at General Care Convalescent Center is
pursuing a nursing degree through Excelsior College;
Joseph W. Dowling – LPN at
Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center is pursuing a nursing degree at
Dyersburg State Community College;
Melissa L. Hall – director
of nursing at Life Care Center of East Ridge is pursuing a masters
of science in nursing at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga.
LaTonya M. Malone – LPN/nurse
manager at St. Peter Villa is pursuing a nursing degree at Southwest
Tennessee Community College;
Irma P. Morales – CNA at
Hillcrest North is pursuing a nursing diploma at Pellissippi State
Technical Community College;
Angelia L. Rea – LPN at
Covington Manor, Inc. is pursuing a nursing degree through
Chancellor’s Learning Systems;
Kimberly M. Risner – CNA at
Hidden Acres is pursuing a nursing diploma at Tennessee Technology
Center at Pulaski;
Wanda J. Sikes – LPN/assistant
director of nursing at Humboldt Nursing Home, Inc. is pursuing a
nursing degree at Dyersburg State Community College;
Debra F. Stanley – CNA at
Boulevard Terrace Rehab. & Nursing Center is pursuing a nursing
degree at Aquinas College;
Monica S. Swallows – social
services/admissions coordinator at Wharton Nursing Home is pursuing
a nursing degree at Roane State Community College;
Charlotte R. Webb – LPN/staff
development nurse at Lexington Manor Nursing Center is pursuing a
nursing degree through Excelsior College; and
Kelly S. Williams – CNA at
Little Creek Sanitarium is pursuing a nursing diploma at Pellissippi
State Technical Community College.

Institute, vice chairman; and Melissa Hansen with Madison Health
Care & Rehab Center, secretary/treasurer.
